A Frustrating Day

Day 4,      Wednesday, September 3, 2025

We are still jet lagged, me more so than Bob.  After a quiet morning we decide to find an Orange store to buy a SIM card for Bob’s phone.  Not so easy,  We walked about twenty minutes to the first store, only to discover that it was an Orange office building, no sales!  Next we take the metro to another Orange store in a big shopping centre, only to discover that they do not sell SIM cards (go figure!) and they send us to a Tabac store in the mall.  They only have one kind of SIM, and it isn’t one that will work for us…so we Google the location of another Orange store closer to the centre of Paris, take the metro again and surprise!  They don’t sell SIMS either! Turns out we have to download an E-SIM.  We sat down in the store to do that, thinking that if we have problems we could at least get some help, only to find that our Koodo roaming plan isn’t working again!  AARGH!  Enough…we quit and decided to go find a patisserie and buy some pastries .

We pass a world Heritage site, the Tour Saint-Jacques, a tenth century tower that is all that remains of the Saint-Jacques de la Boucherie Church. It always amazes me to see that something so ancient has managed to survive in the middle of a city.

We pass this interesting fellow dancing in the street, and he smiles after I take his photo.

The pastries look lovely but they are very expensive! €6.90 or €7.30 if you want to eat them at the cafe. That is $11.74 Canadian!

We find a bakery on a side street that is a bit more reasonable. €8.80 for all these desserts.

We have tea and pastries on a nearby bench and do a bit of people watching. As we walk back towards the metro to go home we pass this building. It is home to 30 artist’s studios and looks interesting but we are too tired to look inside.

Nearby Bob finds his very own ‘tag’!

Before we take the metro we walk onto Pont Neuf for a view of the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

After dinner I sat down to work on this post. WordPress has changed the way posts are written. What this means is that nothing that I used to do works and I can not figure out their new Block Editor format. I am having to piecemeal it together and it is taking me twice a long to write a post as it used to. I am so frustrated…not sure if I will be able to keep blogging during this trip. I will try to figure it out more tomorrow…I am done tonight.

  1. The trials and tribulations of technology can really test one’s patience. I was glad to see you rewarded yourselves with those yummy pastries. Hoping tomorrow will be a less frustrating day, anything specific planed?

    • Yes, My patience was sorely tested! I was quite upset, but once I had a bit of sleep and looked at everything again I remembered the work around I had found on our last trip, so all is better now.

  2. Hope you figure out the E-sim technology can be so frustrating! How exciting Paris once again. We’re leaving early Oct for Paris, then Avignon and Provence. Provence is new to us so excited for that & of course visiting Paris it’s been 9 years since our last visit.

I look forward to reading your travel blog so hopeful you’ll find a way for it to work.

Take care have fun and enjoy your new adventures!
